Privacy Settings

Cirql gives you fine-grained control through a 3-level hierarchy. Higher-priority settings always override lower ones.

Set your default privacy posture for the entire platform:

  • Fully Private — nobody can see your profile or real name
  • Family & Friends — Trusted Cirql members get limited access
  • Full Control — custom per-Cirql and per-user configuration

Override your global setting for a specific Cirql:

  • Use Global — follow whatever your global setting says
  • Share with All — all members of this Cirql can see the relevant info
  • Share with None — hide from everyone in this Cirql regardless of global

The most granular level — override everything for a specific person:

  • Explicit Grant — always show to this person, regardless of other settings
  • Blocked — never show to this person, regardless of other settings

Your real name is handled differently from other profile data and is one of the most sensitive pieces of information in Cirql.

  • Your real name is encrypted separately for each person who is granted access
  • The server stores only the encrypted ciphertext — it cannot read your real name
  • You can choose to share your first name only, or your full name
  • Grants can be set to expire automatically
